Heavy Duty

Heavy Duty came out of Bill's Music House in Catonsville, and almost all the initial members worked for Bill: Bob Jones (drums), Bill Higgins (bass), Mark Latham (guitar), Chick Zuwalick (keyboard), and myself on lead vocals.

I knew Bill from Catonsville High School. I went into the store to buy a microphone and wound up the lead singer in the band. We rehearsed in somebody's basement, played a couple small gigs, and then got an opportunity in February of 1969 to play at Judge's on Greenmount Ave. with the Koffee Beans. When they were asked to move to the the Mardi Gras on Harford Rd. we took over 6 nights/week (5 sets per night) at Judges.

After a few months we also played the Mardi Gras, 6 nights/week, until the end of 1969 … then the band broke up. It was an interesting and delightful 10-11 months, of which I have many fine memories.
